There are a lot of rumours about the driving age in the UK increasing to 18, but these are just
that - rumours. There is no current plan to change the age restriction - if it ever happens, it will
be publicised heavily! You can't start to drive a car until your provisional driving licence is in
your hands. It is as simple as that, so you must plan when you want to get your hands on that
special form! If you are in receipt of the higher rate of disability, you can start to learn how to
drive when you reach your 16th Birthday otherwise you will have to wait until your 17th Birthday.
But the licencing system is a little strange. You can actually apply for your licence when you are
15 years and 10 months old, so that when you turn 16, you can take a CBT course and get on a moped to get some freedom! Whenever you reach the next age limit, your provisional
entitlement automatically starts, so at 17, you can get behind the wheel of a car! (err... but nor
before!)
